OSDC - Who we are

The Open Source Developers’ conference is a not-for-profit conference covering all aspects of Open Source Technology - from software and systems to open data.

For the past 10 years OSDC has been held across Australia and New Zealand, in some recent years drawing in well over 200 attendees, and hosting talks by leaders and luminaries of Open Source Technology.

Last year

Last year OSDC was held in the lavish Langham Hotel in Auckland, New Zealand. Our focus was on security, privacy and identity and we hosted 3 keynote speakers and brought together 40+ speaker sessions.

The 2014 Conference

This year, marking our 10 year anniversary, starting the 4th of November 2014 for four days, the Open Source Developers’ Conference is taking place at Griffith University on the Gold Coast (Queensland).

We are seeking your support through sponsorship to help us make this, our 11th conference, another outstanding success.

Our Focus for 2014

While OSDC will be host to a wide range of presentation topics, from running an open source business or community, to more technical presentations, the general conference focus for 2014 is around the following areas

Open

Open Source software, hardware, data and standards (protocols) enable higher quality, more secure products, and faster innovation.

Inclusive

Openness enables and encourages exploration, the foundation of education. Making products accessible to for instance vision impaired people becomes easier. Affordable products are available to those with less money. Women, kids, and many other groups can get involved more easily. These are all opportunities, we must still work to make them happen!

Connected

The last 18 months has seen a tremendous rise in the development of connected hardware, the connected home, wearables and sensor equipped devices. Devices such as the illusive connected Fridge and Washing Machine through to advanced medical applications and health services.

Open / Tutorial / Workshop Day

As in some previous years, we will be hosting a fourth day to facilitate tutorials and workshops, as well as providing the option for an open day to the public.

We are inviting topic matter experts to teach the use of open source tools, with particular emphasis on enabling the transition for users of their proprietary counterparts.

After the recent success of Arduino workshops and other hardware related hack sessions, we are also seeking to provide a similar experience for this years' delegates.

Networking and Social Focus

As is the tradition of OSDC, there will be a dinner event held on the evening of the 5th of November, for all attendees.

Sponsorship

There will be four standard sponsorship packages on offer. Sponsors are allowed to provide unlimited flyers and gifts for the conference swag bags provided to attendees. Competitions, ideas and initiatives are welcome to be discussed.

Sponsorship is split in to package and bolt-ons. Packages help us cover the cost of the conference, and bolt-ons allow us to provide additional features that make the conference even better, and more valuable to the community.

They are designed to offer guidance around the benefits of investing in this years' conference. The actual benefit structure is always open to negotiation.

We strongly encourage you to contact our Sponsorship Liaison, Ben Dechrai, on +61 415 127 120 or at sponsor[at]osdc.com[dot]au to discuss the ways in which we can help tailor a package to suit your individual requirements.

Community (AU$500)

OSDC is closely aligned with Open Source communities and small businesses around Australia. It is therefore important to us to see the broader communities represented at the conference.

Community groups and small businesses are welcome to purchase a higher level sponsorship package. If such a commitment is not possible, the Community Sponsor level is designed to allow you to provide financial support. In return for your investment, you will receive a text link back to your group's or organisation's website.

Bolt-Ons

Conference Dinner (AU$6,000)

Each year sees a conference dinner bring delegates together for food and social activities. Past conference dinners have included dinner keynote presentations - more relaxed and informal compared to our main keynotes and plenaries, and often humorous in nature.

Our dinner sponsor gets to name the dinner (subject to organiser approval), and will be invited to provide an MC to open the event.

Video Production (AU$5,000)

This package makes it possible for us to record all the presentations and provide them to those who weren't able to make the conference.

Become our Executive Producer and get your company's logo on the video pre-roll.

T-Shirts (approx AU$4,000)

No conference is the same without a conference t-shirt. OSDC's t-shirts will be clean and simple; our logo on the left chest, your logo on the sleeves, and a stylish design on the back reflecting the conference statement. This bolt on requires a fixed investment of AU$1,000 plus costs of the t-shirts and printing, estimated at $3,000.

Lanyards & Badges (approx AU$2,500)

Every delegate will wear one, and lanyards often get reused in the future for smaller events like unconferences. Have your company name or logo displayed in hundreds of places during the conference. This bolt on requires a fixed investment of AU$1,000 plus costs of the lanyards and badges, estimated at AU$1,500, which will be co-branded OSDC 2014.

Refreshment Breaks (AU$1,500)

Have your company logo displayed in the break area during a morning or afternoon break during the conference. There are six of these bolt-ons available.

Trade Show Area

We are negotiating the availability of a trade show area in which sponsors may exhibit.

In previous years, this space has been used to promote career opportunities, display products, provide information around relevant services, or simply as a spot to disseminate brochures and marketing material.

Let us help you make the most of this space; contact our Sponsorship Liaison, Ben Dechrai, on +61 415 127 120 or sponsor[at]osdc.com[dot]au.

Logistics

Exhibition Space

Any space made available to sponsors will be equipped with a table and two chairs. All other equipment and requirements are the responsibility of the sponsor. Access will be provided before the conference opens each morning to allow for set up time. Exact details will be confirmed nearer the conference date.

Conference Recordings

Should it be made possible, talks for the conference will be recorded and be made available through the OSDC website a few weeks after the end of the conference.

Lunch

Lunch will be provided through normal attendee lunch offerings, Vegetarian and Gluten Free food will be served.

Internet Access

Wi-Fi Internet access is provided free during the conference.

Advertising during the conference

Advertising and announcement requests outside of those defined above can be arranged but will need to be planned with the conference organisers.

Banners will need to be sent to the venue ahead of the event, or brought along by an exhibitor representative during exhibitor access hours. Similarly, banners will need to be collected prior to the event closing. OSDC organisers can arrange return of banners by courier at the sponsor's cost. Please contact the OSDC organisers for delivery information.

Competitions and Prizes

If sponsors would like to run competitions or offer prizes during the conference, this can be arranged with the help of the conference organisers. If sponsors have related competitions or announcements that they would like to announce during the conference again the conference organisers will be happy to help, however we ask that requests are made prior to the event.

Environment Policy

We aim to make the environmental footprint of the conference as small as possible. Therefore we ask our sponsors to consider the environment with their promotional material, for example minimising printed material and distributing media on reusable USB media rather than CDs or DVDs.
